Choir Unität: Semester-Closing Concert (seated)
FREIRAUM im Studentenhaus
The study is a time to experience culture, to try oneself out and to develop one's own creativity. This requires space, encouragement and an open environment. The BKI - Büro Kultur & Internationales of the studierendenWERK BERLIN offers just that.
FREIRAUM im Studentenhaus
KUNSTRAUM - Art Space - offers new spaces at various locations of the studierendenWERK BERLIN. Students can express themselves artistically, e.g. with exhibitions, installations, performances and media works. The locations offer a great variety of spaces and exciting forms of interaction with audiences: from gallery like spaces in student restaurants to well hidden, grungy underground labyrinths and huge abandoned parking spaces smack in the middle of Berlin's thriving gallery scene in Potsdamer Straße.
We support cultural projects in the student residences that encourage a harmonious living together. In the residence tutor program, tutors support and give advice to new - especially international - residents. With events such as the residence quiz or residence football championship, we bring together students from different residences to have fun together and to win prizes.
'Get togethers' are our events where you can easily meet fellow students, exchange views, discover Berlin or simply have a good time with friends. Our Get Togethers are very interesting for international students, as they can discover Berlin and meet open minded people who are interested in intercultural exchanges.
In Mai 2018 we organized for the first time the short film competition "Film it! Your film in 48 hours", in which 20 teams participated. In many of our other projects and events students film works have been shown, such as part of installations in exhibitions or in theatre plays. In addition, the Büro Kultur & Internationales produces films and music videos, for example with our Choir Unität or for our exchange project ParisXBerlin.
Anyone who lives and studies in Berlin has a lot to tell. That's why we offer a reading stage once a month to student Berlin authors. Everyone is welcome and can present texts in the cosy ambience of a fireplace at the HU room or during summer on a nice terrace at the TU. In addition to that, we launched the first student writer-in-residence project "Berlin Stories" in May 2018. The texts can be found in the blog on this website. In our interdisciplinary projects, such as ParisXBerlin or food & culture, literature also enters into dialogue with other arts. In the series Mix it! category "Spoken Word" we give the spoken word a special stage.
We offer during the semester many music and stage events in which students can just watch and listen or stand on stage, like in our talent competition "Mix it! Talent". Some of our other projects are Voguing, Unität Choir, the Freispieler or Improtheater - and every student can join in all of them. More Infos about the events an registration to them in our event calendar.
Since 2018 there has been the first student city writer in Berlin. With the city writer project "Berlin Stories" we want to capture the specific perspective of Berlin students. Each year, a different writer is selected by a jury. After Charlotte Wüher in 2018, Josephine Bätz is now Berlin's new student city writer for 2019. She is a student of film studies in her first master semester at Freie Universität Berlin and has been writing mainly poetry and short prose since childhood.
During her last academic year in Ireland, during an Erasmus stay, she already dealt with the city of Dublin in the form of a poetry blog. Within the framework of Berlin Stories, she would now like to take the opportunity to explore and develop Berlin in various literary forms.
Read the Berlin Stories Blog here. NB: the stories are mainly in German.
