Daycare center at the Humboldt University in Berlin

We pay particular attention to the socio-cultural living environment. Shared experiences of success and challenges count; we strengthen the children's self-confidence and convey a feeling of togetherness. Welcome to the daycare center at Humboldt University!

Our daycare center at a glance

The daycare center at Humboldt University "Die Lupe" offers space for around 88 children aged eight weeks until they start school and is located in a protected area in the center of Berlin Mitte with its own playground and a view of the Spree.

The crèche area is located on the ground floor of the two-story house and offers around 175m² of educational space for 36 children. These are looked after in 3 groups with 12 children each. In addition to the group rooms, there is a studio and a children's restaurant available.

The mixed-age area is located on the 1st floor and offers around 232m² of educational space for 52 children. This area works according to the open concept. Accordingly, you will find various functional rooms there: learning workshop, studio, construction room, role play room, sensory room. The upper floor also has a children's restaurant. There is also a large space for everyone to move around.

We work according to the Berlin education program. We pursue a holistic educational approach and support the children based on their strengths. The mixed-age area in particular is characterized by the pedagogical concept of open work. The daycare center has functional rooms in which the children can move around according to their individual interests. Every child receives support from a caregiver at all times.

In the toddler area (0 - 3 years), however, we look after the children in groups. The youngest children are being cared for outside the family for the first time and need a protected space for education and experience.

For us, a “holistic educational requirement” means that we incorporate all areas of education equally into our everyday lives. The children experience music and culture, movement and art, research, work and discovery as well as language and mathematics every day.

We pay particular attention to the socio-cultural living environment. Every child is already shaped by their own family culture. The daycare gives the children shared experiences of success and challenges that strengthen their self-confidence and give them a feeling of togetherness. We support the children in becoming aware of their social values, questioning habits and getting to know other cultures.

Research

Through guided projects, we encourage children to research, work and discover in our learning workshop.

Sport and exercise

In close cooperation with the university sports department at Humboldt University, we use the large sports hall on the other side of the Spree once a week to enable a more comprehensive range of exercise.

Arts and Culture

Artistic work in the studio often leads to larger projects, such as creating backdrops for theater performances. We display the children's works in the daycare center.

We also take advantage of the city's diverse cultural offerings: museums, theaters and concerts.

Forest day

Weather permitting, we offer older children a weekly forest day to experience nature. Together we explore their value for us humans in order to develop an understanding of the environment and respect for other living beings.

Celebrate parties

Over the course of a daycare year, we have many opportunities to celebrate. They are important to us because they break up everyday life, are fun and leave behind beautiful memories. There is one every year for our preschool children Kinderfest in the "Freiraum" - the event hall of the cultural area studierendenWERKs - instead.
