04. Advice on completing applications

 

We recommend submitting the application via the BAföG-Digital portal to fill out. This offers numerous advantages. The information is answered in the form of a questionnaire and immediately checked for plausibility and completeness and incorporated into the necessary forms.

Form 1 (Questions and evidence)

  • If you do not live with your parents or do not live in your parents' apartment, you will receive a flat rent supplement of 360 euros. For this we need a current rental agreement or landlord's certificate.
  • If you pay your own contributions to health/care insurance and are not insured by your family, you will receive a supplement to the insurance, which depends on the form of insurance. If you have compulsory student insurance, the surcharge is 122 euros (94 euros health insurance + 28 euros nursing care insurance). If you have voluntary student insurance (usually from the age of 30), then the surcharge is 206 euros (168 euros for health insurance and 38 euros for nursing care insurance; for this we need a certificate from your health insurance
  • The bank details must be entered correctly (IBAN in the EURO area).
  • Information about your own income relates to your expected income during the approval period (usually one year). Gross earnings of up to 6251,02 Euros are not taken into account for single people (lower, different amounts apply for intern remuneration or similar).
  • Single students who have not yet reached the age of 30 are entitled to an asset protection allowance of 15.000 euros. For everyone over 30 years of age, the asset protection amount is 45.000 euros. This includes: savings balances, stocks and securities, life insurance, motor vehicles (including motorcycles) or real estate. The amount increases by 2.300 euros each for the spouse or registered partner as well as for each of their own children.


Your assets information is compared annually with the Federal Central Tax Office.

Form 2

  • does not need to be submitted if you submit a certificate of enrollment that shows the semesters and university semesters.


Form 3

  • for your parents and your spouse or registered life partner.
    You can easily move people in BAföG-You can request participation digitally via email and you can also fill out your form via the portal.
  • Each parent is required to fill out Form 3
    • Proof of income from the penultimate calendar year before the start of the approval period (but see point 5) must be provided by submitting the relevant form Income tax assessment. For an application for the winter semester 2022/23, proof of income is therefore required Calendar year 2020 to submit.
    • If there is no tax assessment for the relevant calendar year, an employer's certificate stating the gross salary earned and the taxes paid is sufficient.
    • All parents who are not working and receive benefits such as: If you receive unemployment benefits or a pension, for example, (uncertified) copies of the relevant benefit notices are sufficient. B. the employment agency or the pension insurance.
    • Are the requirements for a compulsory income tax assessment met, e.g. B. Traders, possibly pensioners, certain tax class combinations and if the relevant tax assessment has not yet been issued, a decision on the application will be made taking into account the credibly proven income situation. The training funding is provided subject to repayment. As soon as the tax assessment is received by the Office for Training Funding, a final decision will be made on the application later.
