Sustainability

Sustainability is in studierendenWERK BERLIN is an integral part of the internal management process. We combine what is economically necessary with what is ecologically sensible.

We use green electricity from 100% renewable energies. In many canteens we use Direct Digital Control systems (DDC) to optimally control the building management system. The most modern kitchen technology such as pressure cooking vessels and combi steamers are also used for “low temperature cooking” overnight. This maintains the quality of the products and protects the environment. Modern, environmentally friendly dishwashing technology is now standard equipment in all facilities. We also largely use biodegradable cleaning agents and the latest dosing technology in the kitchens.

In the coffee bars of studierendenWERKs BERLIN only offers coffee, cocoa and coffee specialties that are fairly traded and sustainably produced. The tea also comes exclusively from sustainable cultivation.

In all cafeterias studierendenWERKs BERLIN we use frying fat without palm oil. It is replaced by pure boiling fat made from 100 percent sunflower oil.

Im studierendenWERK BERLIN produces around 40.000 kg of coffee grounds every year. An enormous amount that has so far been disposed of properly along with other food waste. But: coffee grounds are far too valuable to throw away!
