14. Master's or further education

You only need to read the following section if you already have a school-based vocational qualification or a university degree before starting your studies. It depends on whether you have one in principle BAföG have completed training that is eligible for funding (e.g. vocational school, technical school). In-company training (apprenticeship) plays no role.

Training support for a single further training is provided, among other things, up to a vocational qualification,

• if it supplements a university education or training that is equivalent to this under state law insofar as this is necessary for taking up the desired profession legally required (e.g. psychotherapist training after completing a master's degree in psychology for the profession of psychotherapist) or

• if access to it was opened in connection with the previous training, it is independent and continues professionally in the same direction (e.g. educator after social pedagogical assistant training) or

• if a technical high school class, the attendance of which requires completed vocational training, an evening high school or a college was attended and this is an entry requirement for further training (e.g. studies after evening high school) or

• if the entry requirements for the further training to be supported were acquired through a non-student examination or an entrance examination to a university or

• if students are the first vocational students to have completed at least three years of training at a vocational school or in a technical school class whose attendance does not require completed vocational training (e.g. studies after completing a technical school for fashion design) or

• if you have acquired a bachelor's degree and then start a master's degree. You are not required to continue your studies immediately after completing your bachelor's degree unless you are no longer younger than 45 when you start your master's degree. It doesn't matter whether the degree was obtained from a university or technical college, at home or abroad. If you have only been temporarily enrolled in the Master's program by the university because you have not yet received your Bachelor's certificate, funding will be provided subject to repayment until you are finally admitted.

Master's training is supported if it builds on a bachelor's degree, even if you have more than one bachelor's degree. Funding is also possible if the basic entitlement has not yet been exhausted - you have not yet completed any training that is eligible for funding and were directly admitted to the master's degree without a bachelor's degree due to your artistic ability.

For example, if you are admitted to a master's degree based on a diploma, there is no funding available BAföG more is possible
