Daycare at the Berlin University of Economics and Law

One of the concerns of our early childhood education is to prepare children for a sustainable life and to enable them to participate in all aspects of their everyday lives. Welcome to the daycare center at the University of Economics and Law!

Our daycare center at a glance

The daycare center is located in House C of the Berlin School of Economics and Law and therefore directly on campus. It offers space for up to 45 children.

We work according to the Berlin Education Program (BBP) and support children in all areas of education. In this way we can meet the demand for holistic education. We place our educational focus on the educational area of “health”.

Our daycare center has a spacious playground. Group rooms equipped with movement materials give the children a variety of incentives and opportunities for movement experiences. We go into the garden or explore the surrounding area regularly and in almost all weathers. We go shopping with the children, plant vegetables or herbs in the summer, and prepare breakfast or an afternoon snack. We pay attention to a balanced, healthy diet.

So that the children can experience a good mix of challenging and calm phases in our calibration, we also offer children's yoga, readings and massages during sleep and rest periods.

Another concern of our early childhood education is to prepare children for a sustainable life and to enable them to participate in all aspects of their everyday lives. Language is an important tool for exchanging thoughts, wishes and feelings. That's why we promote language development throughout everyday daycare and thus combine many other areas of education.

The daycare center has large and bright rooms. In order to meet the different needs of children, we have created various areas in which they have the opportunity to rest and relax, exercise, be creative and role play.

These areas are divided into functional rooms or functional corners. Two plateaus expand the children's play and movement area. There is a building corner, a role play area, a studio area, a relaxation room and a den building room. The large hallway with its climbing castle is used as an exercise room. Most of the play materials are freely available to children so that they can determine their own play.

It is important to us that the children enjoy moving around a lot. We usually go to the on-site playground every day and in almost any weather. There the children can romp around, climb, swing, slide, dig and explore nature to their heart's content. The playground has swings, climbing frames, a slide, balance bikes, large digging boxes and a water connection for water fun in summer.

Free game

The children spend a large part of the day playing freely with us. During this time, children decide for themselves where and how they play. Through play, they engage with the world and gain important learning experiences through imitation and variation. Our job is to observe the children's play behavior and, if necessary, to support them with impulses or assistance.

Excursions

The facility is attended by children who live all over Berlin. That's why it's important to us to go on trips to the surrounding area with the children and to familiarize themselves with it. Depending on what's on offer, we also take the children to the theater, the Spatzenkino and museums.

Forest day

On our regular excursions into the nature of the forest, the children experience the connections between nature and make a variety of observations about the flora and fauna. Together we explore the special value of nature for us humans in order to develop an understanding of the environment and respect for other living beings.

Festivals and Celebrations

Over the course of a daycare year, we have many opportunities to celebrate. They are important to us because they break up everyday life, bring joy and fun and leave behind beautiful memories. We celebrate the traditional festivals of the intercultural calendar, but also our annual one summer festival is a highlight of the daycare year. There is one every year for our preschool children Kinderfest in the "Freiraum" - the event hall of the cultural area studierendenWERKs - instead.

Accommodation

A special event in the daycare year is the daycare overnight stay. It is organized together with the children. A night without parents represents a special challenge that the children are happy to take on because they experience the daycare night with friends and familiar people. Experience has shown that these experiences remain in the children's memories for a long time even after their time at daycare. Participation takes place in consultation with parents and educators.
