Daycare center at the Technical University of Berlin

Science and technology are our educational focus. We have been the “House of Little Researchers” since 2006. Welcome to the daycare center at the Technical University!

Our daycare center at a glance

The daycare center is located on the north campus of the TU, just a few minutes' walk from Ernst-Reuter-Platz and the U2 subway line. We offer space for up to 112 children aged eight weeks until they start school.

Every child has the need to explore the world, learn new things and express themselves. We see it as one of our most important tasks to carefully accompany them and offer them a field of discovery appropriate to their age and level of development.

We pay particular attention to the acquisition of intercultural skills and the education sector "Nature, environment, technology". Our daycare center sees itself as a workshop that gives children fun in discovering, experimenting, researching and trying things out. A wide variety of materials invite you to do this. Our house is open to children's ideas, creativity and imagination. We take this into account and offer the children support in order to explore and further shape the living environment in our community.

We encourage children's need to constantly expand their own skills in our facility. It is in this context that we understand our profile: a questioning, researching and discovering attitude in all areas of daycare life.

You can download our educational concept here.

Our 1200 m² playground is located directly in front of the daycare center. There is plenty of play equipment, large sand play areas, a water pump system, a road and lots of shady trees and bushes.

Up to 48 crèche children aged 0 to 3 years will be in their own Nativity area cared for. The crèche includes four group rooms, a bedroom and two washrooms, a play hallway, a large balcony and two cloakrooms. The group rooms are designed to encourage exploring, climbing and playing. The children have access to a variety of materials and toys, such as building blocks, stuffed animals, picture books, plug-in and grasping toys, sorting boxes and rhythm instruments. The differently designed corners serve to stimulate children's senses. There are play plateaus in each of the rooms.

We look after up to 64 children from the age of 3 until they start school mixed-age area. Here we have created different functional areas or corners. These provide the opportunity to play, be creative, discover and experiment, move and relax. The mixed-age area has play rooms, a studio area, a dress-up corner, a research area and a bedroom and relaxation room. The materials are mostly kept visible and accessible to the children, so that their natural curiosity is continually awakened.

Outdoor activities

Our daycare center is attended by children who live all over Berlin. That's why it's important to us to take trips to the surrounding area and get to know it. We like to go with the children to the banks of the Einstein and the Spree, to the zoo, to the lock in the zoo and to the zoo. Other favorite places for the children are the Pippilangstocking playground, the nearby goat farm and the “Witch House” on the Spree Canal. We involve the children in purchasing ingredients for cooking and baking together. Visits to the parents' workplace and the children's home offer the children the opportunity to experience the diversity of international work and cultural diversity in living.

Festivals and Celebrations

Over the course of a daycare year, we have many opportunities to celebrate. They are important to us because they break up everyday life, bring joy and fun and leave behind beautiful memories. There is one every year for our preschool children Kinderfest in the "Freiraum" - the event hall of the cultural area studierendenWERKs - instead.

Sport and exercise

It is important to us that the children move around a lot. We go to our adjacent playground very often and in almost all weathers, where the children can run around, climb, swing, slide, dig and explore nature to their heart's content. We also regularly go to gymnastics in a gym at the TU Berlin and cooperate with a swimming club where swimming courses are held for the children. Once a year our older children can take part in the Bambini run in the zoo. For them it is a great community experience to walk together for around 800 meters through the zoo.

Cooperation project with Ackerdemia eV

In accordance with its profile "Nature, Environment, Technology", the daycare center and Ackerdemia eV have created raised beds where the children can try out gardening and observe the growth of various plants. If the project goes well, the daycare children will be able to harvest lots of vegetables and herbs in the future. A first planting campaign was started in May.
