02. When and how do I submit my application?

It's best to submit your application immediately after you've been admitted and made your decision, to study in Berlin.

Basically, you should submit your application for training funding as early as possible (6 to 8 weeks before the start of the semester).

Please note the application deadlines:

In principle, funding begins with the month in which you start your studies. However, if you submit the application in a later month, payment will only be made from that month. The previous months are then lost.

You register there once and can then use all the benefits.

It's best to agree to long-term storage, then you can access your data in the future and include it in subsequent applications.

The application assistant guides you through the entire application process and you can easily upload all the necessary documents online.

The date of successful transfer is considered the application date.

You can't do it on time (e.g. October 31.10st for BAföG from October) to submit the application to the office? Then send us a short message with your details (name, address, possibly funding number if you already have one) using the contact form BAföG applied for. You then submit the forms via your user area BAföG- Digitally, via the upload portal or by post.

BAföG-Digital also offers you the opportunity to inform your parents or your partner via email about their necessary participation in the application process. They can then use the email to submit Form 3 via the portal BAföG-Fill out digitally.

About one BAföG-Application is regularly decided for 12 months (approval period).

Shorter approval period:

Your studies end before then.

The application is not submitted at the beginning of the semester.

Proof of performance is due in advance.

A semester abroad or vacation semester is coming up.

Two months before expiration of the approval period you should then have one new funding application place. If you do not meet this deadline, your claim to funding will not be lost, but there will be an (avoidable) interruption in payment.
