Training to become an administrative assistant

During your training to become an administrative assistant, you will learn how to process administrative processes in the public service.

Im studierendenWERK BERLIN focuses on advising students on all questions BAföG (Federal Training Promotion Act) and in the processing of BAföG-applications.

This is also related to the processing of formal acceptance and payment regulations of the State of Berlin and activities within receivables management (reminders, deferrals, enforcement, cancellation and payment processes of the state budget regulations).

During your training, you will get to know the tasks in a secretariat, in human resources and in finance. In addition to processing general correspondence, you will learn how to record data, create statistics and do the initial processing of incoming and outgoing mail.  

In the areas mentioned, you will work with colleagues from the administration. You will be encouraged by expert trainers to develop your skills for working independently and to acquire good basic knowledge. We will show you how to use specialist software and how you can use it for your work.

Your practical training takes place mainly at the Behrensstr. location. 40/41 and Hardenbergstr. 34. School training takes place in the OSZ Office Management and Administration. You will also receive in-service instruction at the administrative academy.

For successful training we expect:

  • a secondary school leaving certificate, a technical college entrance qualification or a high school diploma
  • Certificate grades in mathematics and German not worse than two
  • Administrative internship or similar of at least 6 weeks
  • Basic knowledge of English
  • Motivation
  • Reliability and friendliness
