Our day care center at a glance

Our daycare centre is located on the ground floor of the start-up building of the Berlin University of Applied Sciences and offers space for up to 70 children from the age of 8 weeks until they start school.

We are well connected to public transport: The trams on lines 21, 27, 37 and M17 and the 396 bus stop at Marksburgstraße, which is only a few minutes' walk away.

Our daycare centre offers bright, spacious rooms and is divided into two areas: the toddler area for children aged 0 to 3 years and the elementary area for children aged 3 to 6 years. A total of 30 children are cared for in the toddler area. They have access to 4 group rooms, a studio and a spacious dining room, which is also used for joint activities.

In the elementary section for children aged 3 to 6 years, we organise everyday life in an open group setting to offer the children plenty of space for self-determined play and development. The rooms are functionally named and furnished to encourage undisturbed and intensive play. The children have a construction room and a role-play room where they can give free rein to their creativity. They also have access to a studio and a spacious dining room, which are also used for joint activities.

Our outdoor area is situated in a quiet location in a natural environment and is a special place for play and discovery. Trees, hedges, natural corners and structural elements such as our wooden ship and the nest swing encourage children to move and play together.

Trips

Our facility is attended by children who do not all come from the immediate neighbourhood. It is therefore particularly important to us to familiarise them with the local area through excursions. This gives the children the opportunity to experience nature as the seasons change and in different weather conditions. They learn how to move around in a group, follow rules together and thus strengthen their social skills. Depending on the programme, we also take the children on excursions to the theatre, the "Spatzenkino", museums, the "tierpark" or the "Wuhlheide".

Sport and Exercise

Once a week we use the university gym. In addition to the fun of exercise and play, we give the children various opportunities to become aware of their physical strengths and to discover the social aspects of sport.

Playground

It is important to us that the children move a lot and find joy in it. We usually go outside on our playground every day and in almost every weather condition. There the children can romp, climb, swing, slide, dig, and explore nature as they please. A water main allows for summer water games.

Participation and Contribution

In our daycare centre, the children have the opportunity to actively shape their everyday lives in an age-appropriate way. We take the children seriously, trust them and take their fears, feelings and interests into account. We provide them with a wide range of opportunities to express their own ideas, respect the opinions of others and work out solutions. In this way, they gain their first experience of democratic principles. Our team has intensively analysed the rights of children and is developing a pedagogical guideline that defines the concrete (co)decision-making rights of children in our everyday life.

Festivals and CelebrationsFestivals and Celebrations

In the course of a day care year, we have many opportunities to celebrate. Feasts are important to us because they offer us a break in our everyday routines, are fun and leave us with beautiful memories. Every year we look forward to our summer party, the festival of lights in autumn and the winter festival in December. For our preschool children there is an annual children's festival in the "Freiraum" - the event hall of the culture department of  studierendenWERK. Every year, we’re also looking forward to our annual summer festival and our lantern festival in autumn.

Since November 2023, the daycare centre has been a partner daycare centre of the "Berliner Volleyballverein Vorwärts e.V." ‘Vereine machen Kita’ is a partnership programme between daycare centres and sports clubs that aims to strengthen children's motor, personal, social and cognitive skills through an additional range of physical activities. Movement trainers from the club spend 4 hours a week in our daycare centre and work with our teachers to increase the children's movement time in a playful, joyful and imaginative way.
We also cooperate with the "Karlshorster Schule" to ensure the best possible transition from daycare to primary school.
We also work together with the "Bodo-Uhse" library and visit it regularly to promote access to media for our children.
