The day care center is located on the northern campus of TU (Technical University), only a few minutes to walk from Ernst-Reuter-Platz and the underground line U2. We offer space for up to 112 children from eight weeks to school entry.
In every child, there is a need to explore the world, learn about new things, and to express oneself. We see it as one of our core tasks to accompany the children sensitively and to offer them an explorative field that corresponds with their respective ages and level of development.
Our focus lies on intercultural competences and on the fields of "nature, environment, and technology". Our day care center sees itself as an institution that helps children explore the fun in discovering, experimenting, exploring, and trying out. A wide range of materials invite them to do so. Our house is always open for the creativity and imagination of the children. We take up their ideas and offer them support to explore and further shape the world we all live in.
We encourage and support the children's need to expand their own abilities. This is how we understand our entire profile: Dupporting the children’s curiosity and discovery spirit in all areas of the day care life.
Our spacious 1,200 m² playground is located directly in front of the daycare centre. There is a variety of play equipment, large sand play areas, a water pump system, a roadway and numerous shady trees and bushes. Raised plant beds invite the children to plant and care for them together with parents and educational staff.
In our separate nursery area, we look after up to 48 children aged 0 to 3 years. This area includes four group rooms, a bedroom, two washrooms, a play corridor, a large balcony and two cloakrooms. The group rooms are designed to encourage the children to explore, climb and play. The children have access to a variety of materials and toys, such as building blocks, soft toys, picture books, pegging and grasping toys, sorting boxes and rhythm instruments. Differently designed play corners stimulate the children's senses. There are also play plateaus in each room, which provide even more fun for discovery.
In the mixed-age area, we look after up to 64 children from the age of 3 until they start school. Here we have created various functional areas that fulfil the different interests and needs of the children: An atrium serves as a construction and building area, two studios invite the children to be creative, and there is a music and movement room, which is also used for resting. We also offer a media workshop, a learning workshop for experimenting and researching, a cosy library for retreats and reading aloud, as well as a role-play room with dressing-up facilities, a kitchen and a toy shop. Most of the materials are visible and easily accessible to the children, so that their natural curiosity is constantly awakened.
Outdoor Activities
Our day care center is attended by children who come from all over Berlin. Therefore, it is important for us to make trips to the surrounding area. We like to take the children to the Einsteinufer (river bank) and the Spree river, to the Tiergarten park, to the Tiergarten sluice and to the zoo. Other favorite places of the children are the Pippi Longstocking playground, the nearby Ziegenhof communal center and the charming Hexenhaus at the Spree canal. We buy ingredients for cooking and baking. Visiting the parents' workplaces and the children's homes give them the opportunity to experience the diversity of international work and cultures.
Festivals and Celebrations
In the course of a day care year, we have many opportunities to celebrate. Feasts are important to us because they offer us a break in our everyday routines, are fun and leave us with beautiful memories. For our preschool children there is an annual children's festival in the "Freiraum" - the event hall of the culture department of studierendenWERK.
Sports and Exercise
It is important to us that the children move a lot. We often visit our playground where the children can romp, climb, swing, slide, dig and explore nature in almost every weather condition. We regularly go to the gym at the Technical University and cooperate with a swimming club for children’s swimming classes. Once a year our older children can join the Bambini Run in the Tiergarten park. It is a great communal experience for them to run about 800 meters through the park together.
Gardening
As part of its focus profile ‘Nature, Environment, Technology’, the daycare centre has created raised plant beds together with Ackerdemia e.V..
The children have here the opportunity to gain their first experience of gardening and observe the growth of various plants, which they can taste or process after harvesting. They are supported by dedicated parents and educational staff.
