Kita at the Berliner Hochschule für Technik

Our day care center at a glance

We offer space for up to 48 children in a younger age mix with children from 8 weeks to 4 years and an older age mix area with children from 5 years to school entry.

Our facility is situated in a quiet green environment and has a large children’s playground. It is within walking distance to the campus Wedding of Berliner Hochschule für Technik and can be easily reached with U9 and U6 from the stations Leopoldplatz or Amrumer Straße (U9) or Ringbahn S+U station Wedding.

There’s the need to explore the world in every child, to learn about new things and to express oneself. We regard it as one of our core tasks to accompany the child sensitively and to offer them an explorative field according to their respective age and stage of development.

Our house is open to ideas, creativity and fantasy of the children. Apart from the family, the day care community is another little living environment. We offer support and room for creativity to explore and further shape this living environment, i.e. the design of the garden.

We want to strengthen the children’s sense of togetherness and their respect towards one another. We achieve this through various group activities, for example by doing experiments as a group or by visiting the adventure playground. The children learn from each other and are inspired to explore their environment together as well as to develop their motor and linguistic abilities.

We support cognitive and social competences. We put a special emphasis on the education of nature, environment, technology and sustainability. We encourage the children to think about their environment while playing, observing and experimenting. We support them in answering these questions individually and also find individual solutions.

The house is divided into a younger mixed-age group from 8 weeks to 4 years and an older mixed-age group (1-Stein-Klub) with children from 5 years up to school entry.

Or four big rooms offer large, inspiring areas for playing. The younger mixed-age group uses four and the older group one room. All rooms are equipped to meet the current needs of the children. Therefore, there are areas for role-play and construction, corners for discovery, creativity, a sensual cave for the youngest children and a cozy place for the morning circle.

The garden offers exciting opportunities to play. The near playground is an attractive play area for the older children to try out new things. Inside the facility, the children are able to play on specially designed higher play levels that provide them with extra spaces to move around.

Sports and Exercise

We take up every opportunity to go outside with the children to play, romp about and explore. We use the surrounding area and the cultural offers of Berlin for excursions, such as the ATZE musical theater, the Rehberge park, the forest, the Nordufer riverside or the Sprengler park.

The children use the gym of the Berliner Hochschule für Technik three times a week.

Festivals & Celebrations

In the course of a year, we have many opportunities to celebrate. Feasts are important to us because they offer break in the everyday routines, are fun and leave us with beautiful memories. Our annual summer party is one highlight within the day care year. For our preschool children there is an annual children's festival in the "Freiraum" - the event hall of the culture department of  studierendenWERK.

Language Cooperation Project

,,Clapping Words create a Rhythm”: This title refers to a two-year cooperative project between our day care center, the cultural diversity initiative Total Plural e.V., the ATZE musical theater as well as the Leo-Lionni primary school we have a cooperation with.

With songs, rhyme and clapping games, movement songs and little choreographies the children have various possibilities to gain access to the German language. The work of the leading artists Ulrike Düregger and Nadine da Cruz Oliveira is marked by respecting the children’s languages of origin. They contribute to the project with their wishes, ideas, and favorite songs. The highlight of the project will be a show by the children.
