Conflicts as an Opportunity for Learning [Only in German]

Arguing differently in studies and everyday life

How do you argue? How do you experience conflict? How is it for others? What can you change about your own behavior in arguments and how can you change your attitude toward conflict?

In this workshop, participants have the opportunity to engage (emotionally) with their (own) conflict behavior and reflect on related influences from the past.

In the first step, the focus will be on learning to recognize, understand, and name conflicts as such. The second step involves addressing one’s own attitude toward conflict as well as behavioral patterns that may be an obstacle to (constructive) conflict management. An additional layer is the awareness of structurally embedded conflict situations in societies that exist on the basis of discrimination mechanisms, power dynamics, and intercultural differences.

The goal of the workshop is to introduce an approach to handling conflicts that shows how they can be viewed and understood as an opportunity for learning. To this end, there are tools that we will acquire together and practice applying. The workshop aims to inspire participants to look more closely at conflicts, to develop the capacity to act and the courage to accept conflicts in studies and everyday life, and to shape them constructively.

Instructor: Thomas Lehnen – is a Master’s student in “Communication in Social and Economic Contexts” at the Berlin University of Arts (UdK) and has completed training as a conflict mediator at the Akademie von Hertel in Hamburg.
