Autistic (Un-)Masking [Only in German]

Workshop for students on the autism spectrum, including AuDHD

Do you feel a strong need to adapt to your surroundings and wear a social mask? Do you show different sides of yourself depending on the situation and worry about being misunderstood if you don't mask?

Masking describes the conscious or unconscious concealment of autistic traits and serves as a protective strategy for many autistic people. At the same time, it can be exhausting and lead to a feeling of increasingly losing touch with oneself. Especially in daily (campus) life, autistic students encounter many social situations that require or trigger masking.

In this workshop, we will explore:

  • What autistic masking means in everyday life (including at university)
  • Its potential advantages and disadvantages
  • When and how unmasking can be beneficial.

In a small group, we will reflect on our own experiences, share insights, and develop an understanding perspective regarding the parts of ourselves that are masked and unmasked.

This workshop is designed as an empowerment circle. You are warmly welcome to attend even if you only suspect you might be on the autism spectrum. There will be a break during the session. Listening is perfectly fine at any time; no one is required to speak at any specific point.
