How does the collective imagination of a past take shape? Which narratives remain effective? What traces do violence, migration, and power relations leave behind in bodies, spaces, and social dynamics? And how can existing perspectives be shifted?
The group exhibition I don’t know if this story is true presents a series of interdisciplinary artistic positions, accompanied by an intensive discursive program in which the artists share their expertise and methods, present participatory formats, and engage in an interdisciplinary dialogue with external perspectives.
The exhibition explores memory not only as an individual process but also as a socially constructed and contested field. The starting point is the assumption that memory is malleable and changeable, and is continuously transformed by narratives, archives, bodies, and spaces. These are never neutral, but rather structure pasts as forms of historiography, shape the present, influence imaginations of the future, and shape collective social processes. The space opened up by these perspectives is capable of accommodating the complexity of the emerging narratives.
