Sports Aesthetic [Only in German]

Writing Workshop on Sports and Pop Culture

Whether it’s running clubs, Pilates studios with a minimalist aesthetic, or just the good old gym: sports shape our pop culture and fashion and structure our daily lives. Sports can be political, empowering, or subversive. Or is Pilates perhaps just a sign of growing conservatism—and will blue be the new trendy color for our shakes in the new year, following matcha green? In our writing workshop, we invite you to get to the bottom of this pop-cultural phenomenon. With an iced drink in hand, we’ll set out on a journey through Berlin. Sports and pop culture serve as a starting point for your own observations, sketches, and associations—whether you personally enjoy them or view them skeptically from the outside.

Three thematic sessions will explore different aspects of Berlin’s sports culture: at a Berlin sports bar, at Tempelhofer Feld, and at Pilates and yoga studios in trendy West Berlin. In a dedicated writing session, we will then finalize our ideas and provide each other with feedback. A preview of the resulting work will be presented in the form of a joint final reading.

Dates:

  • April 29, 7–10 p.m.: Sports bar
  • May 3, 1–5 p.m.: Sports in the park & writing (Tempelhofer Feld)
  • May 11, 4–8 p.m.: Gyms & writing
  • May 18, 4–8 p.m.: Feedback and reading planning

Reading: June 30 or July 8
