Guest theatre Ba-Ta-Clan

Performance of an “Offenbachiade” in the spirit of Hanns Eisler

Four Eisler students present their production to mark the 75th anniversary of the Berlin University of the Arts and reflect on the controversies that arose during rehearsals.

Rehearsals for the performance of the operetta “BaTaClan” transport the four vocal students back to the emancipatory struggles of the 19th century. In the process, shifting through the eras changes their perspective on the piece and confronts the performers with themselves: they find themselves in similar identity crises as their characters. In this way, they grapple with persistent gender roles, conflicts over abuse of power, and questions about their studies and careers. And they reflect on their personal aspirations between tradition and modernity in musical theater.
