Excursion destinations in Berlin

There are many wonderful places in the capital. Here are my top 5 (not-so-secret insider tips).

By Lorena Erler, dormitory tutor at WH Siegmunds Hof

1. The zoo

The Tiergarten is one of the largest parks in Berlin and, in addition to beautiful cafés, has many green spaces that invite you to relax. The park is also ideal for doing sports or just quietly enjoying nature and unwinding. Sights such as the Victory Column and the English Garden can also be found there.

5. The Museum Island

The Museum Island is a particularly beautiful place; in the evening you can experience a lot there; there are often street musicians and salsa evenings right by the water.

Of course you can also pay a visit to the museums.

2. The Tempelhofer Feld

Tempelhofer Feld is a former airport square. The large area and asphalt runways are ideal for inline skating or cycling. There are numerous ways to use the areas, in summer there are barbecue areas and there are also areas for dog owners. Even in winter you can ski or simply walk on Tempelhofer Feld.

3. Victoria Park

In contrast to the Tiergarten and Tempelhofer Feld, the Viktoriapark is a hilly park; to be precise, the Kreuzberg is there. From the summit of Kreuzberg you have a wonderful view of the city. The waterfall in the park is an absolute highlight.

4. The great Wannsee

The Großer Wannsee is one of my favorite lakes in Berlin. You can find the lake very easily with the S-Bahn and in some places you can swim for free and enjoy the water directly. On hot summer days, sunshine and cooling can be combined.
