Welcome to the semester!

Teaching and research are what universities do. We do all the rest

Do you know what a "studierendenWERK" is?

Studierendenwerke run university canteens and halls of residence, and take care of BAföG. And not only that!

The studierendenWERK BERLIN runs counselling centres, offers training courses and, if you already have children, even daycare centres near the campus.
And we also organise cultural events!

In the following, we will explain what the studierendenWERK BERLIN offers you.

All information given in the video is also provided in the text.

Canteens, Foodtrucks and Coffee Bars

Our canteens and coffee bars are spread all across Berlin. There are 55 in total, but due to Coronavirus they are open or closed depending on the current infection situation. They offer food to order in advance and to take away ("Click&Collect").

Our food trucks are definitely on tour, bringing our food to you to your hall of residence and also to some of our canteens or university locations.

The current menus are available on our website and in the app. You can pay with your MensaCard, which you can top up at a vending machine, food truck or via autoload.

All further information and an overview of which canteens are currently open or where our food trucks are located can be found here:

Residence halls and assistance in finding accommodation

We can currently provide Berlin students with over 9,000 places in 32 halls of residence.
Registration is done exclusively via the dormitory portal on our website.

Unfortunately, there are currently about 3,000 students on our waiting list. Therefore, you have to be prepared for longer waiting periods (at least one semester). In the meantime, the InfoCenter studi@home will advise you on finding accommodation in Berlin.

You can find all the information you need about finding a place to live here:

BAföG

Our Office for Educational Support, or BAföG Office, is responsible for all students from officially recognized Berlin universities.

Did you know that only 17% of Berlin students apply for BAföG? But many more would be entitled to it.
An application is almost always worthwhile! You can make your application via our online portal.

Due to coronavirus, we currently do not offer personal consultation hours. However, the local advisors in the office are available to answer your questions by phone.

Which consultant is responsible for you, you can find out here: To the search form

All information and the BAföG guidelines are available here: www.stw.berlin/en/finanzierung
