Art space studierendenWERK BERLIN

KUNSTRAUM - Art Space studierendenWERK BERLIN is opening new spaces at various sites of the studierendenWERK BERLIN in which students can express themselves artistically, e.g. with exhibitions, installations and media works. The sites include, among others, the cafeterias at the TU and HU, the BAföG Office. But also, less well-known, but extremely exciting spaces will be used as art spaces, e.g. the historical cellars under the Studentenhaus at the Steinplatz.

KUNSTRAUM Storkower Straße

The approximately 500 m² house wall of a students residence in Berlin Lichtenberg is waiting to become a giant projection screen for your art. For this project the studierendenWERK BERLIN is looking for an artist  who would like to present his/her art work on the 33m high house wall. We are looking for an image that draws attention to the building and emphasizes the social component of living in a residence with more than 500 students from different disciplines and countries living together. The logo of studierendenWERK BERLIN should be creatively integrated into the artwork.

Go wild, there is enough space!

The first prize draft will be realized by a professional company and your artwork will be shown on the facade of the building in spring 2019 for the Berlin Mural Fest. Apply with your creations until 26.10.2018.

A jury of experts selects the three best ideas.

The first prize will be awarded with 1000 euro, the 2nd with 500 euro and 3rd place receives an award 250 euro.

Please apply here.

KUNSTRAUM Potsdamer Straße

The KUNSTRAUM Potsdamer Straße consists of  approximately 250qm exhibition space and two parking deck, each about 1000 square meters in the underground car park. Theplace with its special rooms should develop into a kind of " external venue" of the cultural office, in which we realize group exhibitions and events as well as selected individual presentations during the period from April to September.

By this the KUNSTRAUM Potsdamer Straße is one of the few places in which works of students from the two major art colleges and other universities in the city can be seen together. We therefore consider this place as a special opportunity to discover young talents among the students of Berlin. The BKI Office Culture & International Affairs wants to contribute to the active art scene of Potsdamer Straße by opening up the space and the artistic program.

Cellar art space in the Studentenhaus

Time Lapse - Kunstraum im Keller des Studentenhauses Time Lapse | studierendenWERK Berlin

The cellar under the historical Studentenhaus in the Hardenbergstraße 35 was artistically redesigned for the first time in February 2017, by eight artists from the Berlin Weissensee School of Art.

In the project "Timelapse", the labyrinthine corridors and rooms were designed to create an underground city, where the past and future of Berlin meet. The artists developed this unusual place using installations, performances, video, sound, objects and drawings.

The great success of the art campaign has encouraged the Cultural & International department to hold more art events in this unusual space in the future.

The events will always be held in the winter semesters. In the cultural calendar they will be listed under "Art space" tag.

The cafeteria of the TU Mensa, the Schinkelsaal of the HU Mensa Nord, as well as the BAföG office has some attractive art spaces which host various exhibitions throughout the year.

Due to the high number of visitors in these places, the spaces offer exhibiting artists a very attractive platform.

Additional art spaces are currently being created in the residences.

Please see the cultural calendar under the tags "Arts pace" or "Exhibition" for the current exhibitions.
