Kulturwerk goes online! We offer our courses, events and activities online and are currently developing innovative, space-independent offers by/for students.
The study is a time to experience culture, to try oneself out and to develop one's own creativity. This requires space, encouragement and an open environment. The BKI - Büro Kultur & Internationales of the studierendenWERK BERLIN offers just that.

KUNSTRAUM offers new rooms at various locations of studierenWERK BERLIN. Students can express themselves artistically there, for example with exhibitions, installations, performances and media works. The locations offer a wide variety of spaces and exciting forms of interaction with the public: from gallery-like rooms in refectories to well-hidden, underground labyrinths and huge, abandoned parking garages located in the middle of Berlin's thriving gallery scene on Potsdamer Strasse.
Events in residence halls
We support cultural projects in the student residence halls that encourage a harmonious living together. In the residence tutor program, tutors support and give advice to new - especially international - residents. With events such as the residence quiz or residence football championship, we bring together students from different residences to have fun together and to win prizes.
'Get Togethers' are our events where you can easily meet fellow students, exchange views, discover Berlin or simply have a good time with friends. Our Get Togethers are very interesting for international students, as they can discover Berlin and meet open minded people who are interested in intercultural exchanges.
In May 2020, the office for culture and international affairs is organising the "Film it!" short film competition for the third time. This time under the motto #stayathome. In many of our other projects and events students film works have been shown, such as part of installations in exhibitions or in theatre plays. In addition, the Büro Kultur & Internationales produces films and music videos, for example with our Choir Unität or for our exchange project ParisXBerlin.
Berlin writes many stories. Those who live and study here know that. That's why we invite student Berlin authors to read their texts at our reading platform Lies los! It will take place online every three weeks in the summer semester 2020.On our blog some texts will also be published after each reading. The first student writer-in-residence project Berlin Stories is also entering its third round and Dana Vowinckel is the new student writer-in-residence 2020. A new addition to the programme from the summer semester onwards is the intercultural writing group "TextTransit" under the direction of an author. In the group, students can develop their texts in their own language or write texts in a non-native language (e. g. German). Babylon Berlin sends its regards! To go with this, there will be a small literature festival in early July, probably online. More information about current events can be found below and current events can be found in the event calendar.
Stage & Music
We offer during the semester many music and stage events in which students can just watch and listen or stand on stage, like in our talent competition "Mix it! Talent". Some of our other projects are Voguing, Unität Choir, the Freispieler or Improtheater - and every student can join in all of them. More information about the events and registering for them can you find in our event calendar.
Since 2018 there has been the first student city writer in Berlin. With the city writer project "Berlin Stories" we want to capture the specific perspective of Berlin students. Each year, a different writer is selected by a jury. After Charlotte Wüher in 2018 and Josephine Bätz 2019, is Dana Vowinckel now Berlin's new student city writer for 2020.
Read the Berlin Stories Blog here. NB: the stories are mainly in German.
