studierendenWERK BERLIN is responsible for the students of Berlin and is geared towards their needs. The target group is young, academically educated, and has a high affinity for modern communication technology. The proportion of international students (with whom English must be spoken at times) is about one-fifth. Every semester, a new generation reaches the campus. This means that studierendenWERK BERLIN couldn’t be said to have a group of “regular customers.” 

 

studierendenWERK BERLIN is decentralised and its 102 facilities are spread all over the city. They are located close to the 20 cooperating universities. The central administration is based in Charlottenburg, directly adjacent to the University of the Arts and the Technical University.

There are numerous working time arrangements at the studierendenWERK BERLIN. For those in full-time employment, the working week is 39 hours long.

For most office jobs, flexible working hours of 06:00 AM to 08:00 PM are in place, with a core time of 3 to 4.5 hours. In some departments, the core time can be prolonged due to walk-in consultation hours. 

The working hours in the canteens, cafeterias and day-care centres are regulated by shift plans.

Shifts at the weekend are rare, but possible in principle.

Remuneration of studierendenWERK BERLIN employees is based on the “Tarifvertrag zur Übernahme des TVöD für das Studentenwerk Berlin”. This is a statutory pay scale which has been specially created for the studierendenWERK.

There are no large open offices at the studierendenWERK BERLIN. Our offices are occupied by 1-3 employees and are equipped with ergonomic work tools. These include perfectly fitting office chairs, partially height-adjustable desks and proper lighting.

The workers in the kitchens receive work clothes, and studierendenWERK takes care of cleaning them.

We have equipped our kitchens with air-conditioning systems, ventilation systems and state-of-the-art technology. Ergonomic working aids – such as lifting trucks – make everyday work easier for employees.

Additional meeting rooms ensure that working groups and committees can share ideas without interruption.

Many co-workers commit their time to honorary posts within the organisation. This means that with us, you can be active as an instructor, first aider, fire protection assistant or security officer. We also provide training for these roles.
