CultureTrip: monastery Chorin
We are going to visit Brandenburg's most important architectual monument of the gotic times.
The CultureTrip-program of this winter semester starts with a trip to Chorin. There you can find the former monastery with its impressive gothic architecture, surounded by lakes and forest. Build in 1273 the Ascanian Monastery can easily keep up with the artistic ornamental architecture of other cathedral in Cologne, Paris and Siena. After ist dissolution in 1542, due to the conversion of Brandenburg to the protestantism, the bulidings where preserved and Karl Friedrich Schinkel himself took care of the preservation of the historical monument.
During our visit, we will receive a tour of the area, with its buildings and the permanent exhibition, which deals with the construction of the monastery and the medieval monastic operation.
