CultureTrip: Berlin Underground

Discover the city from down below!

The construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961 changed the cityscape of the capital for good. Even today, some 30 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, it continues to influence the culture of remembrance as a material witness to the division of Germany, even if there are not many parts above ground anymore. Maybe you can even see more of it under the earth, because its construction has also changed many things in Berlin's earthy underground. Berlin's undergrounds are criss-crossed by a network of tunnels comprising 70 tunnels that have been started and 19 completed, which have helped more than 300 people escape. The tunnels tell many stories and have shaped fates and changed lives. During a two-hour guided tour in English, we not only learn more about these people and their escape, but also discover the tunnels and ghost stations below Berlin.

The CultureTrip includes the following program (subject to change):

  • Guided tour through the Berlin Underground: Under the Berlin Wall (2h)

Registration for this CultureTrip is no longer possible.

The Office for Cultural & International Affairs (Büro für Kultur und Internationales) of the studierendenWERK BERLIN regularly organizes a variety of trips and tours for students during the lecture period. These activities are a great opportunity to discover new things together with other students at a reasonable price and to make new contacts.
