Writing Centre

Write yourself smarter!

The Writing Centre supports Berlin university students in academic writing through personal advice, workshops and writing groups. Our services are aimed at Bachelor or Master's degree programmes or state examination study courses. Our team of trained writing consultants will gladly accompany you in all writing process phases from A to Z.

Our Team

How do I find a topic? How do I start writing? How do I cite correctly?

Our team of trained Writing Consultants will be pleased to accompany you in all phases of the writing process.

If you have general questions about writing as part of your studies, or about writing habits, or about a specific writing project, you can arrange a personal appointment with us.

How does the writing advice session work?

  1. You write an email to and let us know briefly what issues you have. Please state which university you are studying at.
  2. One of our writing advisors will contact you to suggest an appointment.
  3. When a suitable appointment has been found, write to us again and let us know what questions you want to discuss during your session. If you want a feedback on a text excerpt (max 5 pages), send the text as an attachment (as a .doc file, font size 12 pt, line spacing 1,5, margin 2 cm).
  4. During the advice session, you will speak with a trained writing advisor about your writing project. The writing advisor will work with you to answer your questions and provide you with support material. The session usually lasts no more than 45 minutes.
  5. If you have not been able to cover all your questions during your session, you can make another appointment.

Our consulting approach is non-directive. This means that we work with you to develop strategies for improving your writing. Writing advice can help you to develop and improve your textual skills, kickstarting the writing/working process and helping you to get organised.

The responsibility for the text itself lies with you. We do not provide support for the content of your text. Likewise, we do not provide editing or proofreading services.

We offer workshops on various topics related to academic writing. All workshops are aimed at students at Berlin universities who want to gain deeper knowledge about academic writing or get more practice with a particular topic. The workshops are designed in such a way that alongside theoretical material, they also contain writing exercises, so that the theoretical knowledge can be put to use immediately.

If you want to participate in any of these events, please register within the registration period. To do so, email us on, stating your full name and the name of your university. Alternatively, you can call us on the following number: 030/93939-8411/-8426

The workshops are held in German. So the detailed information are in German, too.

You’ve done your research and you want to finally begin writing?

You’re right at the start of your writing project and can’t get started? You want to dedicate a day to working intensively on your writing project?

During this day-long event, you and other participants will begin by getting familiar with the Pomodoro work method before trying it out yourself. After a lunch break, you will have time to dedicate yourself to your project. And if you end up getting stuck with your work, you can speak with the writing advisor who will be supervising the writing day.

Each meeting is initiated with a 45-minute joint session on writing, followed by a three-hour individual writing session and finally by a joint wrap-up session.
