If you have general questions about writing as part of your studies, or about writing habits, or about a specific writing project, you can arrange a personal appointment with us.
How does the writing advice session work?
- You write an email to email@example.com and let us know briefly what issues you have. Please state which university you are studying at.
- One of our writing advisors will contact you to suggest an appointment.
- When a suitable appointment has been found, write to us again and let us know what questions you want to discuss during your session. If you want a feedback on a text excerpt (max 5 pages), send the text as an attachment (as a .doc file, font size 12 pt, line spacing 1,5, margin 2 cm).
- During the advice session, you will speak with a trained writing advisor about your writing project. The writing advisor will work with you to answer your questions and provide you with support material. The session usually lasts no more than 45 minutes.
- If you have not been able to cover all your questions during your session, you can make another appointment.
Our consulting approach is non-directive. This means that we work with you to develop strategies for improving your writing. Writing advice can help you to develop and improve your textual skills, kickstarting the writing/working process and helping you to get organised.
The responsibility for the text itself lies with you. We do not provide support for the content of your text. Likewise, we do not provide editing or proofreading services.
We offer workshops on various topics related to academic writing. All workshops are aimed at students at Berlin universities who want to gain deeper knowledge about academic writing or get more practice with a particular topic. The workshops are designed in such a way that alongside theoretical material, they also contain writing exercises, so that the theoretical knowledge can be put to use immediately.
If you want to participate in any of these events, please register within the registration period. To do so, email us on firstname.lastname@example.org, stating your full name and the name of your university. Alternatively, you can call us on the following number: 030/93939-8411/-8426
The workshops are held in German. So the detailed information are in German, too.
You’ve done your research and you want to finally begin writing?
You’re right at the start of your writing project and can’t get started? You want to dedicate a day to working intensively on your writing project?
During this day-long event, you and other participants will begin by getting familiar with the Pomodoro work method before trying it out yourself. After a lunch break, you will have time to dedicate yourself to your project. And if you end up getting stuck with your work, you can speak with the writing advisor who will be supervising the writing day.

The writing group for thesis projects is aimed at students of all disciplines who are writing their theses this semester and already have a topic and a plan for how they will approach their essay. Participants will attend ten writing meetings. Within this pedagogical framework, students will be offered the opportunity to regularly get together with others to work on writing their own final theses. Each meeting is initiated with a 45-minute joint session on writing, followed by a three-hour individual writing session and finally by a joint wrap-up session.
Where? Hardenbergstr. 34, 10623 Berlin

At the kick-off meeting on 6 December, participants will also learn the basics of writing didactics, briefly present their topics in small groups and draw up a semester schedule. The writing group is supervised by a trained student writing tutor who is available at all times for questions and individual writing advice in all work phases.
The number of participants is limited to 16 students.
The prerequisite for participation is the willingness to participate punctually and regularly in the ten dates. You should also already have a topic and a (rough) question for your thesis, which you will briefly present in the first session in small groups.
Before the writing group begins, there will be a short telephone briefing to clarify whether the concept of the writing group corresponds to the expectations and timetable of the participants.
Registration from 21 October - 1 November 2019
Please send an e-mail with your full name, telephone number, university, study programme and topic of your thesis as well as the planned deadline to: firstname.lastname@example.org
